Welcome to Jacobs Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church
Our History

God spoke to Peter saying, “… Upon this rock, I will build My Church, and the Gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.  (Matthew 16: 18)

In 1904, God spoke to the hearts of the patriots of this great church, directing them to establish a CME church in this community. The original church was built in Truss Leeds, Alabama on land donated by Mr. Arch Robinson. The church was named Robinson Chapel in his honor.

In 1914 the church was moved to Harrisburg on land donated by Mr. Lot Jacob and his wife Susan. In their honor the church was then named Jacob’s Chapel CME Church. Our forefathers had to travel through the white community to get to this location. This caused racial problems and acts of hatred from the white community because our forefathers and mothers were not welcome to travel through this area. In search of a place of peaceful worship the church moved to Pell City and built on this location in 1917.

In 1920, because of deterioration the church was rebuilt on this present site under the leadership of Reverend W. L. Bell Sr. and hard-working Christians who continue to serve God. Again, because of deterioration a new building was needed. In 1966 the members of the church and the community joined in this effort to tear down and rebuild a new facility.  The present church which we are worshiping in today begin under the leadership of Reverend Craig Smiley Sr., who told us to “Trust in God and keep the faith for our reward would come in Heaven”. The building was completed in 1968 under the leadership of Reverend Robert Baldwin.

We are blessed to have some of the patriots of this great church movement worship and serving God here today we thank God for our forefathers and mothers all those who are with him and all who are here today still building on the Rock of Faith.
